Something Familliar, Somewhere New: Alchemist in Surabaya

There’s something quietly poetic about arriving somewhere new.

You don’t announce it.

You settle into it.

Last week, we found ourselves in Surabaya, Indonesia’s vibrant coastal city, full of energy and possibilities. For Alchemist, it marked a meaningful first: a debut in a city we’ve long admired from afar, and now get to step into.

To begin, we opened the doors to Onirique del Caffè, a fleeting but intentional space inspired by our fragrance {06} Onirique. It wasn’t just a pop-up, not in the traditional sense. It was more of a passage, one designed to blur memory and scent, taste and atmosphere. There were drinks, a red velvet latte topped with cream cheese foam that echoed the soft richness of Onirique, and a shaken iced tea layered with florals and citrus. Light, vivid, unexpected.

But it wasn’t just about sipping. It was about slowing down. About letting the scent of a room speak before the room itself. It was about returning to a feeling, maybe one you hadn’t felt in a while. We watched people linger longer than expected, smile at the familiarity of something they couldn’t quite place. For us, that was the goal all along.

Then came something more permanent.

The opening of our first Alchemist store in Surabaya at Tunjungan Plaza 4.

A new home. A place built to hold scent, story, and stillness. Where our collections, Eau de Parfum, Extrait, Les Classiques, Alchemist Home and each wait with a kind of quiet confidence, ready to find the skin they belong to.

Being in Surabaya feels like the beginning of something. A new chapter, also a reflection of how far we’ve come. From scent to space. From bottle to experience. From passing moments to lasting presence.

So here we are.

In Surabaya.

Not just visiting, but staying.

And this is only the start.
